Where this all began...
I always new I was extra sensative and different
I always new I was extra sensative and different
I spent my childhood running around in the Australian bush, reading Enid Blyton and talking to my stuffed toys. I was a shy, smiley, sensitive child with a vivid imagination and a love of music and dance.
I made the realisation in my early twenties that I was different to my peers. I loved yoga and bush walks, not partying and oh my gosh, meeting lots of new people? No thanks. School had been my safe place and it was very hard being out in the big wide world.
I got really interested in the self-help wisdom of Louise L. Hay and Wayne Dyer and took myself to kinesiology sessions and meditation courses. No backpacking around Europe for little scared me.
What these passions eventually lead me into was a career in psychology and then in the complimentary therapies as a kinesiologist, flower essence practitioner and intuitive channel.
But I'm getting ahead of myself, because this all emerged after my children came into the world. It was my motherhood transition that really challenged me and shone a bright light on my sensory sensitivities and emotional support needs.
I now think of myself as a highly empathic, spiritually connected and intuitive, Autistic woman. I didn't join the dots on having an Autistic neurotype until I was 52, so when I was younger I just simplified life as much as possible, began meditating daily, and continued my spiritual growth by reading, learning and finding community through my interests.
When the kids were nine and seven we took a big decision and quit the corporate world and the big mortgage and moved to a lovely seaside town in Western Australia. This gave us a lower stress lifestyle and the kids got to have a more nature-based childhood with both parents home a lot.
It was in this stage of life that my spirituality developed, I started a women's meditation group and I began taking better ownership of my channelling abilities and using them.
In late 2022 we made the move back to Perth, as both of our kids were at uni there and it was then that I finally experienced the penny-drop moment. I am Autistic. Not simply sensitive, quirky, unable to handle large crowds and happiest on my own in the bush. I have a brain that works differently and there's a word for it.
If you'd like to read more about my self-realisation, feel free to read my blog post: Why it took me so long to realise I'm Autistic
